It was 2008 not 1984, and I was sitting at my desk trying to figure out what to do next.

The economy was taking one hit after another. The stock market was in decline. Job losses were climbing and the housing market was sinking fast. I was pouring money into my companies doing advertising and marketing to try to keep sales revenues at an acceptable level. Little did I know then how bad it was going to get.

Over the past 20 years I have advertised on radio, television, billboards, magazines, used mailers, telemarketing, internet pay per click and the list goes on. I have blasted my message out to thousands maybe even hundreds of thousands and in 2008 the results were just not there.

It’s an age old business problem, most likely one you have faced. I had a great product and service. There were people that needed my services. The question was how to find and target them at the point in time where they were ready to buy. If only I knew where to look instead of having to look everywhere. It was the 3 legs of the sales stool.

Who wants what I do?
What products and services that I offer do they want?
When do they want my product?

I figured out how to answer those 3 questions. I cut my marketing bill by thousands of dollars. My marketing ROI became measurable. I was able to target ONLY those prospects that were interested in what I offer at that critical time when their interest was piqued or their need was urgent.
